Recovering...again!
You are probably thinking "Amy, what did you do this time?". Again if you don't like tmi (too much information), just move along and we will catch you on the next post.
I am a firm believer that women needs to talk and share more. Since telling friends exactly what and why I am having this surgery, soooo many people have opened up and said "I have that exact same problem! I didn't think anything could be done." I went in on Wednesday to have bladder neck sling surgery. It was out-patient surgery so I was back in my own bed that night. Here is what I did http://www.webmd.com/urinary-incontinence-oab/urethral-sling-for-stress-incontinence-in-women . Mine was a synthetic mesh. So far my feedback - dang! I didn't know such small incisions could be so painful! As my friend told me "yes, the incisions are small but the tubes and instruments they use are bigger. And skin stretches!". Gee, thanks!! But at least there is a reason for the pain. Well, and being sent home with a catheter wasn't the most exciting thing to have ever happen to me either. I've never been so excited to pee on my own as I was when I removed the cath that morning.
I think the most difficult part of this process so far has been having my family do everything for me. I couldn't even lift my legs up on the couch by myself it hurt so bad. I also think this will be a challenge for me: "expect a 2- to 4-week recovery period, during which you should refrain from doing too much work or strenuous activities of any kind.". Ummm, yeah! But I WILL do it because I want this surgery to be successful.
Back to watching movies on Netflix!

I had to have a catheter in after Olivia was born due to some serious complications (major hemorrhaging after she was born) and it was NOT FUN. Well there was a lot of that whole situation that wasn't fun, but I can totally relate to being able to take yourself potty again! I am probably going to have to have this done further on down the road. My bladder is already ridiculous! Thank you for being so open and sharing!
I hope your recovery continues to improve! No fun. I had to have several vaginal cysts removed after Colton's birth and those hurt way more than the episotomy stitches! Anything down there is very painful. I really feel for you and hope you feel better!
And since we're being open, I will also need a similar surgery after we are done having kids. I have vaginal prolapses as a result of fast delivery of big babies. The side effects are very unpleasant. Not incontinence thankfully but still unpleasant. I have to be sure we are 100% having kids though so this is many years down the road still.
*ooo*
I think all of us women can collectively wince when we read this :) Something a future Courtney might need to consider!
Best wishes on your recovery!
And yay for the engagement!
